Day 49: Reassuring Words

Scripture: (Daniel 10:8-13 NLT) “So I was left there all alone to see this amazing vision. My strength left me, my face grew deathly pale, and I felt very weak. Then I heard the man speak, and when I heard the sound of his voice, I fainted and lay there with my face to the ground. Just then a hand touched me and lifted me, still trembling, to my hands and knees. And the man said to me, “Daniel, you are very precious to God, so listen carefully to what I have to say to you. Stand up, for I have been sent to you.” When he said this to me, I stood up, still trembling. Then he said, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer. But for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me, and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia.”

The passage above is a favorite of mine. The book of Daniel demonstrates the faithfulness of this man of God and how God uses Daniel throughout his life. This chapter specifically outlines the struggles Daniel was facing with the visions God had given him. He was in anguish.

In our Christian walk we also experience pain and times of anguish. But God is always faithful and the book of Daniel, most importantly, details God’s continual faithfulness to Daniel in some pretty precarious situations. Beginning in verse 10, the angel Gabriel meets Daniel in his pain and assures him that God has heard his prayer and he describes a spiritual battle that has been waged on his behalf. “Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer.”

What reassuring words! They are true in our lives as well. We often cannot see exactly what purpose God has for the trial we are experiencing but we can always trust He sees us, hears us and is working on our behalf in ways we can’t even see.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12

“But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
