Day 41: Going To the Other Side

Scripture: (Luke 8:22-26) Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they lanched forth. But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake: and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! For he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him. And they arrived at the country of the Gaderenes….”

One day as Jesus was journeying from place to place, He got on a ship with His disciples to “go over to the other side”. Soon after they launched forth a tremendous storm arose, threatening their very lives. Human nature would cause them to try their best to “save themselves” from the storm. After failing and with death approaching, they decided to run to Jesus. They cried to Jesus to save them, and He stood up and rebuked the wind and the waves. He brought peace. They were amazed that Jesus had power over all of the elements. The boat is symbolic of the Church, while the Lake of Genesaret (Sea of Galilee) symbolizes Life itself. Jesus was symbolically taking them out in the church on the sea of Life. As we draw ever closer to the Lord’s return the storms will increase and the temptation will be to abandon the boat, but our safety during this Church Age is IN THE BOAT. Many believers these days are forsaking the House of God, for many different reasons. Beloved, we dare not get out of the boat and we must also learn to cry out to Jesus when we find ourselves in a storm. He is the only One that can bring peace to our storms. He has promised to take us to the other side. Resolve to not get out of the boat!! Why? Because the boat (church) will arrive on the other side.
