Day 37: Finish Well

Scripture: Esther 4:14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

Author: Dale Williams

Christians, do you sometimes feel that your service to the Lord no longer counts for much? Has the zeal and energy of bygone days given way to weariness, advancing age, or infirmity? Perhaps you find yourself reminiscing about former achievements or involvement in building up the body of Christ. Do you feel that your recent efforts no longer hold any relevance? Take heart and lift your head, for there is still much in His service of which you are capable! The mode of our participation changes as time marches on but be assured that there is no mandatory age of retirement from Christian service.

Remember God chose Moses when he was eighty years old to lead his people out of Egyptian bondage. Anna the prophetess, at age eighty-four, continued to serve God with fastings and prayer in the temple. And by the way, Colonel Harland Sanders started the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in 1952, when he was sixty-two years old. Don’t let what you can’t do stop you from doing what you can.

If you are restricted by age or infirmity, send a card or text to an acquaintance who needs encouragement. Call someone simply to check on their welfare. And when the time comes that you can do nothing else of service, remember to pray earnestly, which is the most profitable service that you can render.

Determine to finish well and remember God may have preserved you “for such a time as this.”

Remember to pray for:

  1. Healing of the afflicted. James 5:14-16
  2. Unity in our local assembly. John 17:20-23

Exodus 7:7 (KJV) And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh.

Luke 2:36, 37 (KJV) And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV) I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
