Day 25: Gifts
Scripture: (Matthew 7:19-11): Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent?11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

It can be easy for us to forget that God is our perfect Father. I was blessed to have great parents who taught me the ways of God, loved me, and provided for me more than I ever needed. My earthly parents did a great job. However, our heavenly Father is far greater than my earthly parents. Based on the passage, when we see earthly parents giving good things to their children, how much greater things can we expect from the Lord?
We can expect to receive everything from God that aligns with His will, and nothing less! Even when we do not receive good things that are according to God’s will when we want them, don’t lose heart but stay persistent in asking for them. The same text is written in Luke but slightly different: “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Luke 11:13). God does not only give good gifts to all His children, but the best gift is Himself. God has given us His Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice for our sins and also has given us His Spirit to comfort and guide us. We should approach God as our Father in prayer knowing that He loves us, cares for us, and promises to provide for us.
