Day 23: Strengthen

Scripture: (Philippians 4:13) “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

This verse always makes me think of my Maw-Maw, it was one of her favorite verses and mine too. It reminds me that no matter the obstacles I face, God has given me everything I need. It reminds me of the strength she had during many difficult times in her life. Her strength and faith were such a good example for our entire family and anyone that knew her. She was content, lived life to the fullest no matter the circumstances and always relied on God. 

Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” was written by Paul and is not meant for our own personal motivation to conquer but rather encouragement in those times of uncertainty. In verse 12 he writes, “I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance, and need.” Paul is teaching a valuable lesson, to be content in all things, regardless of the circumstances or outcome. 

Our true test of faith is revealed when we do not get the desired outcome that we seek. Do disappointments in this life cause us to give up on God or our faith? God does not promise that bad things will not happen in this earthly life, but He does promise that we can seek Him for peace, comfort, and strength through those times. In my experience, I believe we draw the closest to God in our weakest times and that produces spiritual growth. 

As we enter the New Year, I pray that no matter what obstacles you may face, you will always seek Him. For He is our only peace and in Christ we can do all things.
