Day 20: Eternally Focused

Scripture: (2 Corinthians 4:18) “…. we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

Author:   Rebecca Hopkins

As followers of Christ, we should ever be looking to the things that are unseen. But what does that look like in our daily lives? If you are like me, I easily lose sight of the unseen when the nights are short, the to-do list is long, and there are several little ones constantly vying for attention. Rather than seeing all of these as distractions, what if we view them as opportunities? We were made for such a time as this (Esther 4:14) and every task or “interruption” that is presented to us offers an occasion to worship the Creator of the universe! When we choose to acknowledge and embrace the things that are seen as being presented to us for the purpose of our sanctification, and each moment of our lives as intricately woven into the infinitely larger (unseen) picture of God’s story and eternity, it changes how we view even the most mundane elements of our day.

Herein lays the potential to turn our focus from what may seem futilely overwhelming and all-consuming, to what God has promised us. Worship isn’t only what we do on Sunday morning or during our quiet time; it is what we are designed to do through every moment of every day!

As Jonathan Edwards once prayed, “Lord, stamp eternity on my eyeballs.”
