Day 17: Abide

Scripture:  (John 15:5)  “I am the vine, you are the branches. The one who abides in Me while I abide in Him produces much fruit, because apart from Me you can do nothing”

Life is busy. It has been said that the days are long, but the years are short, and I personally feel that. Those who know me, know that I tend to operate with a full plate (and gladly!). While it is true that I find joy in this busy life, I often am a little over optimistic in my ability to cope with every task on my full plate. Naturally, life can become a little (or a lot) overwhelming at times. It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the day to day. In those moments I am quickly reminded of what Jesus says in John 15:5, “I am the vine, you are the branches. The one who abides in Me while I abide in Him produces much fruit, because apart from Me you can do nothing” What a beautiful reminder that we cannot go through this life on our own.

We can create all the to do list and fill our time with all of the worldly things but let us not forget to focus on what is going to last. What will we take with us? Certainly not our ever running to do list, but we will give an account of our works done, good or bad. Let our attention be on the One who created us so we may produce much in this life that is honorable and pleasing to God.

As we enter into this new year, drawing closer to God in prayer, my hope is for us to be fully trusting and dependent upon Lord. Remembering to abide in Him because apart from Him, we can do nothing.
