DAILY DEVOTION: "Increase"

Day 13:  Increase

Scripture: (John 3:30) “He must increase, but I must decrease.”

John the Baptist’s words were very simple but packed with a lot of meaning and application for our lives; especially, as we contemplate the coming year.

 John the Baptist had the huge role of preparing the way for our Savior.  He realized that as Jesus came on the scene his role would grow smaller, as intended.  For us, as believers, we should look back at the past year, or even from the time of salvation, and examine how much our fleshly self has decreased…is Christ more evident, does He have an increased presence in our lives and who we are?  Or as we think back over the past year do we realize that it has been self that has increased? 

John the Baptist’s purpose in life was to prepare the way for the Messiah; his life’s focus was directed toward passionately telling others of our Savior.  He spent his life completely dedicated to giving the spotlight to someone else, Jesus Christ.
